Green recyclinga concept for the horse farm
Manure intopellets
The horse manure is dried, pressed into pellets and turned into heat – in a self-contained cycle on the farm.
The plant at Menhammar
01How it works
Farm manure.Farm heat.
The pellet press is part of a complete concept. The horse manure is fed from our own fuel store to our own dryer, pressed into pellets and burned in the Biotherm burner – and the heat goes both back to the dryer and to the buildings.
1 · The manure
30–70%
moisture
Wet and fresh, from the store.
2 · The dryer
11–15%
moisture
The Biotherm dryer, a screw dryer.
3 · The press
c. 5–7%
moisture
The dried manure becomes pellets.
4 · Storage
until winter
Dry and compact, the pellets are stored from summer to winter.
5 · The burner
heat
The Biotherm burner burns the pellets. The heat goes to the houses – and back to the dryer.
A cost becomes an income
Horse manure, which until now has cost money to get rid of, has become a highly potent fuel. A cost has become an income that is easy to manage.
The surplus is sold
Pellets not needed for your own use can be sold on the open market. Once again, a former cost becomes a steady income.
02The Biotherm dryer · own development
Moisture outfirst.
From the manure store, the fuel goes to our innovative screw dryer, which quickly dries it from 30–70 % to 11–15 % moisture. The dryer was developed and designed for horse manure, but can be used for other biofuels too.

- Burn it directly
- Drying to 20–25 % to burn the material directly in a boiler is quicker and gives a higher capacity.
- Two directions
- From the end of the dryer, the fuel can be fed in two directions – to the pellet press, or dry, straight to a boiler that burns it as it is.
- Just the dryer
- The plant is built to suit the customer’s needs – you can, for example, buy just the dryer, to dry the fuel without pelleting it.

03The pellet line
From the dryerto pellets.
The dried manure is pressed into pellets, which are cooled and screened before going on to storage.
- 1
The cyclone
Receives the dried material.
- 2
The rotary airlock
Feeds the material onward.
- 3

Where the dried manure becomes pellets, with around 5–7 % moisture.
- 4
The elevator
Lifts the pellets to the cooling tower.
- 5
The cooling tower
The pellets are cooled after pressing.

Our own control systemThe whole chain – store, dryer, press and boiler – is run by our own control system, which is unique to the whole chain.
04Storage
Ready in big bags.
Pellets are stored in small bags, big bags or bulk stores. Here, a conveyor belt fills four big bags on pallets, in a pallet rack.
- Big bag
- On palletsOne outlet from the conveyor belt to each bag.
- Silo
- 11–185 m³Galvanised steel. See the silos
- Vacuum
- At a distanceA vacuum system can collect pellets from the store.
05The heat
Nothing goesto waste.
The pellets are burned and heat the houses and the dryer – which makes new pellets. A residue is put to good use.
