Silo for pellets · Galvanised steel

Pellet silo

A pellet silo in galvanised steel, filled directly from the bulk tanker. The pellets are blown up to the cyclone on the roof and discharged at the bottom, on to the boiler.

01How the silo works

The pellets' paththrough the silo.

From the bulk tanker up through the pipe, down through the silo and out at the bottom. A pellet silo in five steps.

  1. 01Filling pipe

    The bulk tanker fills it.

The pellets are blown from the bulk tanker through the filling pipe, all the way up to the cyclone on the roof.

  2. 02Cyclone

Up on the roof, the air is separated.

The cyclone on the roof separates the pellets from the air that carried them there. The pellets drop into the silo.

  3. 03Galvanised steel

11–185 m³ on its own legs.

The silo is built in galvanised steel and stands on its own legs, with bracing between them.

    Volume
    11–185 m³
    Material
    Galvanised steel
  4. 04Conical bottom

    The bottom narrows.

The conical bottom lets the pellets flow down towards the outlet.

  5. 05Outlet

Out at the bottom, on to the boiler.

The outlet is at the bottom of the silo. From there, the pellets go on to the boiler – by screw or by vacuum.

02Feed system

From the siloto the boiler.

From the outlet at the bottom, the pellets reach the boiler in one of two ways – by screw or by vacuum.

Option 1

Screw

A screw carries the fuel from the store, through a tight rotary valve, and the stoker screw feeds it into the burner. The rotary valve is fully sealed and safe against burn-back.

Option 2

Vacuum

Pellets can also be drawn by a vacuum system from a store some distance away. For PelleTech Multiauto, the store can be up to 20 m from the boiler.

03Sizing

How many pelletsdo you need?

The rule of thumb: wood chips in cubic metres per year come to roughly twice the boiler output in kilowatts. For pellets, divide the chip volume by 3.9.

Pellets per year, approx. – against the largest silo, 185 m³
  1. 26 m³50 kW boiler
  2. 51 m³100 kW boiler
  3. 103 m³200 kW boiler
  4. 256 m³500 kW boiler – more than the largest silo holds

A worked example based on the rule of thumb – actual consumption depends on the quality and moisture content of the fuel and on how the plant is used. We calculate the figures for your plant in the needs analysis. More fuel stores and the wood chip volumes are on the overview of all fuel stores.
