Heat storage
Accumulator tanks
The tank stores the heat from the boiler and smooths out the peaks – from 300 to 20,000 litres.
- Standard
- 5,000 litres, larger to order
- Rule of thumb
- 20–30 litres per kW of boiler output
- System
- Closed heating systems, up to 95 °C
01Heat storage
The boiler runs evenly. The tank takes the peaks.
The tank stores hot water from the boiler. The boiler can work evenly and efficiently while the tank meets the variations in heat demand.
The tank adds flexibility and ensures a steady supply of heat, even when the boiler is not running. It stands beside the boiler and is sized together with it.
02How the tank works
Heat is storedin layers.
Hot water is lighter than cold. The hot water settles at the top and the cold sinks to the bottom, with a sharp boundary in between.
- 1
Hot water
Uppermost. In from the boiler at the top.
- 2
Sensor pockets
For sensors and thermometers.
- 3
Thermocline
A sharp boundary between hot and cold.
- 4
Insulation
90 mm thick.
- 5
Cold water
At the bottom. Back to the boiler.
- In at the top
- Hot water from the boiler.
- Stratification
- The inflow is controlled to preserve it.
- Out at the bottom
- Cold water back to the boiler.
03Sizes and data
Thirteen sizes.
From 300 to 20,000 litres, for closed heating systems. Thirteen sizes up to 10,000 litres – the standard is 5,000 – and compact tanks up to 20,000 litres.

Tank volume by the rule of thumb
2,000–3,000litres
20–30 litres per kW of boiler output. Sizes that fit: 2,000, 2,500 and 3,000 litres.

Compact, for low ceilings
2,500–20,000 litres
- 5,000 litres
- Height 2,480 mm
Ø 2,000 mm - 10,000 litres
- Height 3,916 mm
Ø 2,200 mm - 20,000 litres
- Height 5,060 mm
Ø 2,600 mm
Tilt height = minimum ceiling height needed to raise the tank. Connection = flow and return to the heat source. Tanks up to 5,000 litres are available with one or two heating coils. Compact tanks over 5,000 litres have flanged connections (PN16 DN80–DN100) and are made to order. The rule of thumb of 20–30 litres per kW is a guideline – final sizing is done in the quotation, and final data for your plant is provided at the design stage.
